Dell Sofware sold !
by John Filippis, Strategic Engagement Manager, Quorum
It is not often that one has the opportunity to play Nostradamus and be right about the predictions. I can safely say that I have been able to tick both of those boxes in light of the recent activity at Dell with its sale of Dell Software.
I had previously alluded that Dell Software was being positioned to be sold off through one of my articles. That predication became reality when the Dell Software group exchanged hands to Francisco Partners Management LLC and the new private equity arm of hedge fund Elliott Management Corp.
The sale of Dell Software, which is focused on advanced analytics, database management and data protection, will help Dell unload its non-core assets as part of its “de leveraging” campaign to streamline its operations in light of its $67 billion purchase of EMC.
Dell paid almost $2.4 billion in 2012 to acquire Quest which contained the lion’s share of the Dell Software portfolio.
And now 4 years later Dell is now back to where it started…being a hardware company.
No more Services (sold to NTT) and now no more software..
I remember someone telling me that hardware, software and services dont mix…in the case of Dell, that recipe definitely holds true.
Till next time..
